How to fix the STOP: 0x00000079 or Stop 0x79 or MISMATCHED_HAL error

Stop errors (blue screen) in Windows

Stop errors (also called blue screen errors or blue screen of death errors) are the most severe errors Windows can encounter. They occur if a serious problem causes your Windows system to shut down or restart unexpectedly. You might see a message that says "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer".

These errors can be caused by both hardware and software issues, and it can be difficult to troubleshoot the problem. In reality, the most common cause of blue screen errors is a device driver problem. Outdated, incorrect or corrupt drivers can cause the system to encounter a Stop error. You can use a driver update program to check, find, download and update all device drivers automatically.

The following tools and methods can also help you get Windows up and running again.

What is the MISMATCHED HAL error

The MISMATCHED_HAL bug check has a value of 0x00000079. This bug check indicates that the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) revision level or configuration does not match that of the kernel or the computer.

This error is typically the result of Windows system file corruption. It usually occurs after an incomplete installation, an unfinished uninstall, an incorrect file erasure, or a hardware problem. If you encounter this error while upgrading to a later version of Windows, the problem might be due to an incompatible device driver, system service, virus scanner, or backup tool.

Fix the MISMATCHED HAL error

The following suggestions can help you resolve the MISMATCHED HAL error:

  1. Download and save an automated repair tool.
  2. Install the software and click the Scan button.
  3. Then click the Fix Errors button as soon as the scan is completed.

  6. Restart your computer after the restoration is completed.
  7. Download and save a cleaning tool software.
  8. Install the software and click the Scan button.
  9. If the scan found something wrong (invalid registry entities, registry errors, Windows system errors, duplicate files, junk files, temporary files), then click the Fix Errors button.
  10. Restart your computer.
